Project Scope

Bulk Earthworks and Pavement Construction

Project Summary

Australasian Construction was contracted to complete a civil scope of works for Ahrens, consisting of bulk earthworks and pavement construction. The completed project provides foundation for warehouse erection, car park facilities and surrounding roadway for use by Sigma Healthcare. The construction occurred adjacent to Burma Road in Pooraka, South Australia.

All works were inclusive of fill under Level 1 Supervision and pavement rubble. Australasian Construction utilised specialised plant to ensure the Client’s requirements were met.

The sub-grade and pavement layers were trimmed to varying design RLs and to within +/-10mm tolerance.

Construction Summary

The existing site required excavation and removal of 23,000 tonne of material. Followed by filling of 2,800 cubic metres to achieve Level 1 fill to the desired site level as per design. The remaining 15,500 tonne of fill was exported off site by Australasian Construction.

In accordance with the design, two sizeable detention basins were formed (connected by a swale) to cater for major and minor storm events.

  • Cut to Fill of sub-grade to design RLs.

  • Amend site won material for reuse, inclusive of removal of oversized and unsuitable material (with use of in-house specialised plant).

  • Supply and place of ballast material to engineer designed sub-grade remediation standard.

  • Compaction of all layers achieved with use of 12-ton pad foot or smooth drum vibrating roller.

  • Sub-grade final trim by specialised plant with inbuilt GPS and laser capable positioning systems.

Pavements

  • Australasian Construction were responsible for the supply, placement, trimming and compaction of PM2/20 rubble across the 19,200 square metre site, divided into areas allocated for building pad, concrete roadways, asphalt car park and a rubble roadway.
